Martyn Hodges - Managing Director
Martyn completed a varied and challenging career in the Royal Marines where he saw operational duty in hostile theatres around the world such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia where he gained invaluable command experience. Between operational periods Martyn underwent training in a host of environments from the arctic to the desert and developed keen instructional capabilities through teaching a host of wide ranging skills from fast roping and abseiling to conduct after capture. He was then selected to join a Maritime Interdiction Counter Terrorism unit in support of United Kingdom Special Forces which developed an interest in wider security related activities.
Upon leaving the Royal Marines, Martyn qualified as a Close Protection Officer and immediately went to work in the extremely high risk environment of Iraq where he commanded a team that provided protection and liaison to engineers involved in the reconstruction effort. Martyn is Managing Director of Oxberry Risk Strategies.
Harry James – Special Projects Advisor
Harry served for thirteen years in the British Army with extensive tours to Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa. He served with the Joint Services Intelligence Team and became an expert in interrogation, resistance to interrogation, conduct after capture, hostage negotiating and debriefing. Since leaving the Military, Harry has gained a Masters Degree in Crisis, Risk and Disaster Management and is a consultant in this specialised field. He teaches Hostile Environment courses and implements business continuity plans and manages incident planning and testing. He has worked with the United States Army Corps of Engineers involved with the reconstruction of Iraq, introduced an infrastructure development programme in South Sudan and has been instrumental in operations in Colombia and Latin America.
Philip Brown – Head of Physical Security
Phil retired from the Metropolitan Police Force with 20 years’ service. During the last five years of service he was attached to Special Branch (Close Protection), passing courses in Advanced Driving (Class One Grade), National Bodyguard, Anti-ambush and anti-hijack driving, advanced firearms (Qualified "Outstanding"), Armourer (Smith and Wesson and Glock), and off-road driving (Range Rovers). Phil has spent the last 15 years in the private Close Protection arena and can count some of the world’s most high profile and wealthiest people as his clients. Phil provides an unrivalled knowledge of personal protection and his reputation precedes him.
Darren Nixon – Training & Development Manager
After completing a long and varied career with the British Army, Darren entered the private security sector after the first Gulf War and rapidly transferred and adapted his military skills to the civilian sector.
His knowledge base and areas of expertise range from pre-hospital care to counter-kidnapping strategies and conduct after capture. Darren has instructed for a number of large companies on a whole range of subjects including Hostile Environment Awareness Training and Emergency Preparedness. He has also enjoyed considerable success as the author of the UK’s largest range of workplace specific first aid and health and safety posters.
Prior to joining Oxberry Risk Strategies, he enjoyed several Directorships with high profile safety and security companies before finally taking a sabbatical and serving as a privately employed security consultant within Iraq during 2004-2007.
